Religion

What's the fuss?

Sometimes religion makes me feel as though it's just being bandied around by a couple of overzealous idiots for their own reasons, no longer being about you and what you believe in, whether it be God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Better yet, you have some of those people who surrender their lot in life to the Bible/Quran/Torah/-insert holy book name here- and their respective god(s). For example I saw a long quote posted by some devout Christian/Catholic on a friend's FB wall. After reading the quote, my first thought was: "You talk a bit too much, given that there is a saying that God helps those who help themselves. And if you help yourself out of your own troubles there would then be no need to submit to purely divine intervention."

Sometimes religion does make more trouble than it settles. Sigh.

You can try to help yourself, but whoever guaranteed that you'll actually make it out? Let's not sound a bit overconfident of what we are now.

To quote newspaper headlines on the RMS Titanic: “This ship in unsinkable, even God Himself can’t sink it!”

Well it doesn't mean you have to surrender events to fate and chance either.

And overconfidence does not necessarily equate with "trying my best".

It does. Repeating what I've said, "It isn't guaranteed to succeed." Getting every bit of help helps.

Surrendering to divine help, or "pasrah" is usually the last option, after you've done everything you could on your side while assisted. It seems like the least likely to succeed after all, and being in control is the way we get things done, don't we?

Quoting Luke 16:8, "...the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light". Indeed this verse reaffirms that claim to the point of getting praise from God - on Earth.

Continuing with 1 Corinthians 3:19, "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God."
